Neil A. MacDonald, Vice President of Operations at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, is retiring on July 2, 2021. During Neil’s 42-year career, he significantly contributed to the growth of both hospitals. As a physical therapist and certified athletic trainer, he helped launch Union Memorial Sports Medicine, and, in his current role, he led key strategic construction initiatives, renovations, and upgrades on each hospital campus.

To celebrate his retirement, Neil has requested donations be made to the Hampden Family Center. The administrators and staff at the Hampden Family Center are overwhelmed at this generous request and cannot think of a better way to honor the years that Neil devoted to serving the greater Baltimore region and the Center specifically.

Neil’s natural leadership, compassion, and dedication have made a significant impact on the Center and the greater Hampden community. Neil was a member of the Center’s Board for six years, serving as Treasurer from 2011 to 2013 and then as President from 2013 to 2017. In addition, from 2015 to 2017, he served as Chair of the Center’s first Capital Campaign, which raised $1.7 million to fully renovate an out-of-date and dilapidated space, creating a beautiful, well-designed, and ADA compliant home for the Center. Neil’s vision and extraordinary commitment helped lay the groundwork to ensure that the Center’s capacity for service will continue to grow and benefit Hampden and its most vulnerable residents for years to come.
