Thousands have come through Hampden Family Center’s doors since they first opened in 1995. In 25 years, the Hampden community has changed quite a bit. Its landscape has transformed from a small-town residential region to an up-and-coming district for homes and businesses. If you haven’t visited 36th Street in a while, you may not recognize it now with all the restaurants and unique shops flourishing there.

Not only has Hampden’s commercial character come to life in recent years, but its public education has expanded as well. Hampden Elementary School broadened its footprint in 2005 to encompass Hampden Middle School.

Even with all the changes surrounding us, Hampden still enjoys its original flavor of old Baltimore, and with it, the same challenges our area has faced for many years, such as high rates of high school drop-outs, teen pregnancy, and drug use. The Family Center is needed now more than ever to partner with its neighbors in working to improve these conditions and celebrate the community we call home.
